i have a very traditional education. i spent a lot of years in silence speaking latin up in the hills, living within the medieval framework. i do respect the past. we study it. if you are grounded in tradition, you feel quite confident in change and innovation. if you are insecure, you are very reluctant to embrace the unknown. i do think we need to in our education and politics, we have to have a new appreciation for our traditions and the patterns that describe our culture and our being as americans. having said all that, we have saved in california tens of billions in energy efficiency. when i first adopted those, people reacted negatively. we pushed ahead. and now in california we have ab 32. signed by a republican actor turned governor. promoting something i pick up on and promote further. the number of people in silicon valley defended ab23 against -- ab32 against an onslaught of texas oil companies. we defend when they tried to block your business. california gets 50% of the venture capital. there is a lot going o

they demanded the school, quote, publicly affirm its commitment to free education. this morning another group of students invited themselves to the meeting of the board of trustees so they could take minutes arguing they needed transparency and student involvement. students are fighting against rising tuition costs. these guys are fighting to remain one of the few colleges in this country that gives every student a free ride. it's amazing, and it's still untodaying tonight. here's the better geeky part. we know they forgot coffee, but there's a question of pizza. college students going without pizza for a couple of days is not going to happen. through a stroke of genius, it hasn't happened. last night a group of cooper union alums decided to buy the protestors pizza, but in order to do that they had to figure out how to get the pizza up to the eighth floor of the clock tower from the outside of the building and they did it because they're quality engineers and future engineers we are talking about. but it's not without trial and error. balloons by themselves did not

i tore them up in his face, and that was the end of my college education, and it was at that time that howard became a labor activist. howard moved to san francisco in 1967, with his lover, roger. he continued to work in the antiwar movement as a organizer in opposition to the vietnam war and staff organizer for the national peace coalition. his efforts and those of other progressive activists to bring into the movement -- to bring labor into the movement were very successful when the northern california labor councils were the first to actually oppose the vietnam war. with the rise of an organized movement in the gay community in the early 1970's, howard founded the bay area gay liberation inkn 1975, which was to advance lgbt rights here in san francisco. the organization's life was actions for lgbt rights and dramatically increased the san francisco. during that period he formed the committee to defend gays in the military. this was back in the mid-1970's. and he began his work on the boycott in 1975. of course those of us who know a little bit about harvey milk know a little bit abo
